DNA Results!!
We received our fax from the lab in the US that conducted the DNA test for Flora and her birthmother. The results show a 99.99% probability of a maternal relationship. You can't get any closer than that!! I am so impressed with the timing of the test and how quickly we received the results.
Monday July 23rd...paid for DNA test and received confirmation within 1 hour that payment was confirmed.
Thursday July 26th...DNA test performed by US Embassy doctor in Guatemala City.
Monday July 30th...Received confirmation that the samples were received by the lab in the US.
Wednesday August 1st...Received DNA test results via fax.
We will now be awaiting word that the social worker interview in Guatemala City has taken place. A social worker for the Guatemalan governement must interview the birthmother to confirm her information. The social worker will be looking for information on her motivation to adopt, making sure that she gave up the baby for the right reasons, she wasn't paid etc. Once this interview has taken place and the social worker has written her report, we will receive confirmation that we have exited the Family Court of the Guatemalan government.
At the same time that we are in Family Court we will be waiting for our initial approval from the US Embassy in Guatemala City. This step is called Pre-Approval. The US Embassy will review our file as well as the DNA results and our documents that have been sent to our attorney in Guatemala. The US Embassy will then issue Pre-Approval. This just means that the US Governement has taken a preliminary look at the adoption and they are giving us preliminary approval for the adoption. The average length of time for the issuance of Pre-Approval right now is about 60 days. I have started a ticker over to the right to show how many days we have on average left to wait to go on to the next step...PGN. Hopefully we can beat the odds and the ticker will not go to zero before I am able to take it down!!
